Punchline – UCOSP Group (Friday Meeting) – 02/11/2012

Kira
Status:
– Started to implement sorting of columns in the marks spreadsheet. Got a good understanding of how the submissions page is doing it, and have it mostly working for spreadsheet, although after some manually testing I realized I didn’t have it fully working with pagination, and I would also like to get it working with cookies.

Next Step:
– Fix the sorting to work with pagination, and cookies.

Roadblocks:
– None, just midterms as usual. Will be glad when they are over!

Joey
Status:
I am also just getting my head back above water following midterm week, but I was able to get a lot of work done on the current issue I’m working on, which is converting all of the legacy prototype helper functions into either modern rails ujs, or just rewriting it as javascript using prototype. It took me a while to finally settle on one way to handle the “observe_field” method, as it looks like there’s no real support for a helper like this in the version we’re using, though I did find out that if/once we switch over to jQuery, there is a gem that adds a lot of these functions back in, but using ujs (unobtrusive javascript) instead. For now I’m happing just writing up little bits of javascript and moving it out of the view.

Next Step:
Finish this issue, and either tackle some more formatting and clean up (I’d like to rework that drop down menu) or get to work on optimizing the FilterTable and it’s ajax calls. I’m also curious about potentially bringing in jQuery. It would be a really big job, but would secure out way to upgrading to later versions of rails, plus it has much better support than Prototype at this point.

Roadblocks:
None at the moment. I had upgraded to Ubuntu 12,10 the other day and thought that something might break in my rails install, but everything went swimmingly.

Michael Ing
Status:
– Fixed and submitted code review for fixes related to the PDF conversion and extension Issue 906 and Issue 908
– Fixed and submitted code review to fix flexible criteria. Issue 745

Next Step:
– Go back to doing testing and updating documentation for the new version of Markus (I needed a break from this and just code, I missed it)

Roadblocks
– None

Emeric
Status:
– I didn’t have a lot of time to work on it (about 4-5 hours only), I had a difficult assignment due this week.
– Finalized Submissions preferences for sorting order, number of entries per page and columns to show. There were some problems with cookies.

Next Step:
– Still a little issue with cookies for the columns to show/hide preferences.
– Create a pull request for the submissions page preferences
– Write a blog post about the current implementation of user preferences
– Look into adding preferences to other tables/list (I’ll probably start with Users/Assignment Graders since I almost have something already)

Roadblocks:
– None

Andrey
Status:
– Fixed minor issues on the Dashboard, Issue 913

Next step:
– Keep working on the dashboard

Road block:
– Assignments

Ante
Status:
– Pull request for Issue 872(disable buttons) sent and accepted. I wonder if we should disable all f.submit buttons the same way.

Next Step:
– If all submit/save buttons should be disabled after press then I will work on that.
– Then hopefully I can start working on bigger problems like the remark request.

Roadblocks:
– Other courses.

Joel
Status:
– No real progress this week, I found myself buried in other work.

Next Steps:
– Ante is going to help with the remark request, so I will explain the bugs I’ve found to him.

Roadblocks:
None.
